- known as 'Al-Risala' because it was sent to ABD RAHMAN al MAHDI in a form of epistle. From this informal name, it became its Formal Title
THE OLD RISALA (In Iraq) 🚂
-he set forth the systematic study of Quran,the Sunnah,Ijma' and Qiyas
-he supported opinion of Madinah Jurists in his acceptance Prophet's companion authority as they are closely related to the Prophet and understood the meaning of Sunnah
-he also accepted the ijma' of successors
THE NEW RISALA (In Egypt) 🚅
-deals with the whole subject of the sources
-it demonstrates Imam Shafie's expert in Arabic as it can be seen in his words usage for new terminology and legal concepts.
-he begins his writing on the discussion of general and topics in jurisprudence
-then,supported with detailed examples and then the authoritative sources of law
-then he looked at Sunnah,Ijma',Qiyas and conclude it with the remaining sources of law like Istihsan
ORDER OF AL RISALA 📬
-the New Risala was rewritten in better way than the old one.
-According to Imam Bayhaqi, the Risala was rewritten in Egypt and the old and new addition were two Different Books
-Ibn Hanbal said "the book Shafie wrote in Iraq were far from perfect,after settling in Egypt they were rewritten and perfected."
